Ep. 381: Designer medicine: Is GenXys the answer?

Guest: Karl Pringle, CEO of GenXys

Finding the best course of treatment for a patient can involve many things – pharmacogenetic testing is one tool in the development of bespoke medicine.

Even so, “it can be difficult to pinpoint exactly how to incorporate the results of these tests into care,” says GenXys CEO Karl Pringle. Ever since the human genome was sequenced, the concept of precision or designer medicine has been akin to a mirage. Is now its time and can Vancouver-based GenXys be part of the solution?

Pharmacogenetic testing is an important first step. It identifies the role your genes play in metabolizing and processing medication, and it can play a big part in supporting a better, healthier journey for all of us. And when it comes to medication, giving people the right dose – of the right medication at the right time – has been complicated. It may only be marginally better than the trial-and-error process.

This, of course, raises the question – how do you incorporate the results of pharmacogenetic testing into day-to-day care? How do we put this vital information in the hands of clinicians who are your primary care givers? How do we work with them to design a precise prescription for you and your medical issue?

Stuart McNish invited Karl Pringle, the CEO of GenXys Health Care Systems, to join him for a Conversation that Matters about the promise of designer medication and when it might just arrive in your doctor’s office.
