Ep. 025: Do we live in a false economy?

Guest: Seth Klein, Centre for Policy Alternatives

We all need to recognize that we’ve undermined our fiscal capacity to pay for the things that we need to pay for.

That is according to Seth Klein of the Centre for Policy Alternatives, who says, "Instead of boasting about having the lowest taxes in Canada, what if we simply said 'let’s be average, let’s tax at the average of Canadian provinces?'" He says that would put an additional $2.4 billion in the provincial treasury.

Klein was responding to our Conversation with Vancouver Police Chief Jim Chu about mental health, addiction and homelessness. Klein says if we addressed the issue upfront with appropriate funding for those in need, we'd save money and we save valuable resources.
