Ep. 011: Research to end HIV/AIDS

Guest: Dr. Julio Montaner, BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS

British Columbia was the first jurisdiction in the world that would make HIV/AIDS treatment free.

That is according to Dr. Julio Montaner of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS. He also details how the drug combination known as "the cocktail" was developed in BC and led to a treatment as a prevention strategy that has since been adopted by the World Health Organization and numerous governments and the Clinton Foundation.

Despite the success of the HAART or highly active antiretroviral therapy the Government of Canada has not adopted the protocol.
